Michigan Archaeology Day October 13, 2108

Michigan Archaeology Day will be held on October 13, 2018 from 10am-4pm at the Michigan History Center in Lansing.  Each year archaeologists from across the state come together to share their collections, skills and expertise with the public at this event.  Admission to the Michigan History Center is free on Michigan Archaeology Day.

This year, Wayne State University will be exhibiting a variety of objects excavated in and around Detroit.  Students from Wayne State are also leading the mock-dig for the under-10 crowd.  Both the table and the mock-dig can be found on the second floor of the History Center.

In addition to the Wayne State activities, a variety of hands on activities for all ages will be available, including pinch-pot making, dart-throwing with atlatls, and a scavenger hunt.  This year a new feature of Archaeology Day is the Archaeology Roadshow.  If you have an artifact you'd like identified (or the oh-so-common 'is it a rock or an artifact' mystery), bring it to the Center where professional archaeologists and geologists will help you to identify it.

A full list of the day's activities can be found on the State of Michigan's website.

Free Michigan Archaeology Day 2018 posters will be available.

The Michigan History Center is located at 702 W. Kalamazoo Street, Lansing MI, 48915.
