Alumnus Jim Carroll strives for the best

Jim Carroll has had a dynamic career since receiving his B.A. in economics from Wayne State University in 1973. Throughout his career, he has competed with Ivy League graduates, but the work ethic and skills he gained at WSU has kept him at the top of the field. Currently Carroll is the Managing Director at Pointe Capital Management LLC. He is also an alumnus of the Mike Ilitch School of Business with a MBA in corporate finance.

During his studies at WSU, Carroll worked at the National Bank of Detroit and did exceptionally well in his classes. Carroll is a supporter of the liberal arts, and advises that all students take at least one economics class.

Carroll is one of the nation's top analysts in the energy sector. He has been named an Institutional Investor Magazine All-America team member for fourteen consecutive years beginning in 1984. His financial expertise has been extensively quoted and featured in top national business publications, such as the Wall Street Journal, Barron's, and Forbes.

Wayne State Mike Ilitch School of Business student Troy Tanzy has had the opportunity to work with Jim Carroll firsthand as an intern at Pointe Capital:

“I have been working on a project with Jim that has been statistically and economically intensive, and whenever I have a question or find myself stuck Jim is there to help. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to work at such a dynamic, intelligent, and open-armed firm. It truly is a family at Pointe Capital.”

Carroll advises all economics students to engage with their professors at Wayne State and make the most of their time with their studies,

“Students should be open minded and search for opportunities that will enhance their studies. Always challenge yourself and strive to be the best you can be.”
