YLAI Visiting Scholars Present at the Center

Young Leaders of the Americas (YLAI) 


Paula Porras and Hector Gonzalez are Young Leaders of the Americas (YLAI) Fellows with the US government. Launched in 2016 under the Obama Administration, YLAI provides 250 fellowships each year to enable Latinos - from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the US - to develop joint business and civil society initatives.  


Paula Porras: "The Fate of the Colombian Peace Agreement"


On Monday, September 31st Paula presented on "The Fate of the Colombian Peace Agreement" and spoke on her peace education initative Somos CaPAZes. Paula is the Co-founder and Marketing and Special Projects Coordinator for Somos CaPAZes.  The Center for Peace and Conflict Studies was honored to host Paula for her time in Detroit and looks forward to continuing to collaborate closley with Somos CaPAZes in the near future.

Hector Gonzalez: "Sports for Peace and Development in Latin America" 


On Thursday, November 3rd Hector presented on "Sports for Peace and Development in Latin America" and his sports for development initative Deporte para el Desarollo. Hector is the Co-founder of Deporte para el Desarollo and partnered with Hype Atheltics in Dearborn, Michigan as a part of his exchange.  The Center was honored to hear Hector speak.
