The Department is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) for academic year 201819 (Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 semesters). Students must enroll in at least 6 hours of Criminal Justice graduate credits per semester and maintain a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 to retain the assistantship. Renewal after the academic year is not guaranteed; the GTA must apply for the position each year he/she is in the master’s program. The ideal candidate for the GTA position will have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field, demonstrate exemplary communication and writing skills, conduct her/himself in a mature and professional manner, have at least 12 credits remaining toward his/her master’s degree, and demonstrate an eagerness to learn about academe.

Responsibilities of the GTA vary from semester to semester, but typically include assisting faculty in the preparation and teaching of their courses. While times and days may change, this position requires that a person be available at varying times Monday through Friday during both semesters. In addition, the GTA may be required to assist with the graduate program and represent the Department at various advising and recruitment functions. The GTA is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week. Further, this position requires that the individual attend a 2-3 day university graduate teaching orientation (to be announced). Attendance at the graduate teaching orientation cannot be waived nor can the dates of the orientation be changed. This orientation is generally held the week or two before the start of fall classes. The GTA position includes compensation of approximately $18,534 (9‐month appointment). It also covers tuition up to 10 graduate credit hours per fall semester and up to 10 graduate credit hours per winter semester, and subsidized health insurance (medical, vision and dental) for the academic year.
