The Center is offering a chance to hear smart people on both sides of the Michigan's Proposal 2 present what they actually think and why, both with each other and then directly with the audience.

Brian Dickerson of the Detroit Free Press will moderate a dialogue. This time, because of the gerrymandering proposal (Prop 2) on the November ballot, we're revisiting Gerrymandering and Representative Government.

January 29, 2018

On January 29, 2018 at the Oakland Schools Building in Waterford Township, former Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Mark Brewer and Republican political consultant Bob LaBrant, moderated by Brian Dickerson of the Detroit Free Press, discussed redistricting.

After the moderated dialogue between the speakers, attendees participated in moderated conversation in a coffeehouse-type atmosphere.

Former Michigan Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, and Andrew Moore, Professor of Law at University of Detroit-Mercy and founder of the immigration law clinic at Detroit Mercy Law, presented opposing viewpoints on refugee resettlement in the U.S. The presentations were moderated by Detroit Free Press Columnist Brian Dickerson.

James Makowski, Esq., Corporate Counsel to the Michigan Gun Owners’ Association, and Linda Brundage, EdD, Executive Director of the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, discussed common ground as well as differences in the balance between gun ownership and public safety.
