Dr. Belzer to speak at the Federal Reserve Bank

There are some economists that believe Detroit could use its strategic location, access to railways, and its proximity to the Great Lakes as a way of leveraging other existing assets in and around the city to make Detroit into a major international freight hub. One of those economists is Dr. Michael H. Belzer, Associate Professor of Economics.  Dr. Belzer teaches industrial organization, macroeconomics and transportation and is the founder of the Transportation Research Board Committee on Trucking Industry Research.  During his 13 years as chairman of the TRB he has done extensive research on Detroit’s viability as a major international port.  Dr. Belzer will present some of his findings to the D.A.B.E. and will discuss some of the potential opportunities to the region or what might be lost if the appropriate investment needed in and around the city is not made in a timely manner. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov 12, at the Detroit Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in downtown Detroit.
