• Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History (for majors declared Fall 2016 and later)

    • 36 credit hours in History with specified distributions to provide students with a broad understanding of history with a maximum of 18 credits transferred from other institutions.
    • Survey Courses
      • One course in two geographic divisions
        • U.S. History: HIS 1050 [AI], 2040, 2050
        • World History: [HS] HIS 1000, 1300, 1400, 1995, 2605
        • Non-Western History: [HS] HIS 1600, 1610, 1700, 1710, 1900, 1910 
    • Intermediate Methodology
      • HIS 3000 - The Historian's Craft
    • Intermediate Coursework
      • At least two history courses numbered between 3001-4999 (excluding 4990 and 4997)
    • Advanced Coursework
      • At least three courses numbered above 5000 (excluding 5993, 5995, and 5996)
    • Advanced Methodology
      • HIS 5996 - the History Capstone course, which is taken with HIS 5993 - The Writing Intensive
    • Chronological Distribution
      • At least one course numbered 3000 or above must be in the period before 1800 and one course must be in the period after 1800
    • Upper-division Geographical Distribution
      • In the 5 courses numbered over 3000, at least one course must be in each geographic division
        • U.S. History
        • European History
        • Non-Western History (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East)
    • Note:  A grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 in the major and overall is required for graduation.

  • Minor in History

    • 18 credit hours in History classes, with a maximum of 9 hours transferred from other institutions
    • HIS 3000 - The Historian's Craft
    • At least six hours of the 18 total must be in courses numbered 3001 or above
