There are currently two special interest groups which involve Linguistics students and faculty: the Languages and Genes Group, and the Chinese Linguistics Reading Group.

The Languages and Genes group, coordinated by Prof. Natalia Rakhlin, is attempting to find statistically significant associations between specific language features and inter-population differences in allele frequency among SNPs and haplotypes of certain genes. Its members include faculty from Linguistics, CSD, and Biology, and graduate students from Linguistics. The group has been funded for the past two years by a Humanities Center Working Group Grant.

The Chinese Linguistics Reading Group, coordinated by Prof. Haiyong Liu, focuses on recent publications on Chinese written in both Chinese and English. It is open to all students and faculty interested in Chinese language and linguistics.

To be added to the mailing list of either group so that you may receive the latest information about meeting times and topics, send an email request to the coordinator.
