New Majors in Statistics and Actuarial Mathematics

The Wayne State Department of Mathematics offers two new majors coming in Fall 2018!  The majors are a B.A. in Actuarial Mathematics and a B.S. in Statistics.  Below are the possible career paths for these majors.  Information on degree requirements can be found on their respective pages; BA in Actuarial Mathematics, and BS in Statistics.  Please feel free to set up an appointment with our undergraduate advisor, Kim Morgan, through Advising Works to find out more.

"Actuaries measure and manage risk.  They work for and with businesses with a financial focus. Businesses including insurance-life, health, property-casualty, even pet insurance. Statisticians work with numerous businesses and agencies and work in fields such as forensics, environmental groups, government, medicine, pharmaceuticals, psychology, meteorology, market research, sports, insurance, consulting and anywhere in which data are collected and analyzed.  Statisticians can also teach K-12 and college level.
