Wayne State University requires all undergraduate students to demonstrate competency in mathematics.  The university policy is described in detail in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

Mathematics Competency can be demonstrated by:

  • Satisfactory completion of MAT 1000 or MAT 1050 or STA 1020 with a grade of 'C' or better, or of another designated course.
  • Placing into a mathematics course above the level of MAT 1000/1050 on the Mathematics Placement Examination.
  • Achieving appropriate scores on national standardized tests.
  • Transferring credit received for successful completion of a course equivalent to or higher than MAT 1000 completed with a grade of 'C' or better at another college or university.

Mathematics Competency must be demonstrated prior to completion of the first thirty credits taken at Wayne State University.
