
Students should review thoroughly before taking the Placement Exam. The Mathematics Resource Center, located in room 1198 FAB, is available for assistance. Students may visit Advising Works to schedule an appointment with a Department of Mathematics academic advisor to discuss their placement situation. The Mathematics Placement Exam is changing May 8, 2018. Please use the appropriate study materials depending on when you will be taking the exam. Testing before May 8, 2018Please Note: The actual Placement Exam is multiple choice and a calculator is not allowed. Be sure to practice without one. Parts A and B of the exam are mandatory and are used for placement up through MAT 1800. Part C is optional and is used for students wishing to place into MAT 2010. Additional practice for Part B is available by working Previous MAT 1050 Final Exams. Additional practice for Part C is available by working Previous MAT 1800 Final Exams.

Please Note: The actual Placement Exam is multiple choice and a calculator is allowed only on select portions of the first part. Be sure to practice without one. The placement exam begins with a subtest called Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics (QRAS). All students, regardless of what course they are attempting to place into, will start with this subtest. It is designed to give initial placement into MAT 1050. Use the following web page to download the Accuplacer Practice app and/or to print out practice questions. On the webpage or the app, look for NextGeneration Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics. There is also a practice test for arithmetic in NextGeneration Arithmetic, if you would like to review those skills.  Practice for QRAS Subtest  All students, regardless of what course they are attempting to place into, must take this subtest of the exam. An arithmetic practice set can be found at this site as well.
The following are practice materials for parts B and C of the exam.  Practice for Placement Exam, Part B  This subtest covers college algebra and is for placing into MAT 1800  Elementary Functions, which is equivalent to a precalculus course. Students attempting to place into MAT 2010 or MAT 2210 must pass the QRAS and part B subtests before taking part C.
 Practice for Placement Exam, Part C  This subtest covers precalculus and is for placing into MAT 2010  Calculus I, or MAT 2210  Probability and Statistics.
