Every year, more than 800,000 people die by suicide and up to 25 times as many make a suicide attempt. 1 in 12 college students have a plan for suicide. Behind these statistics are the individual stories of those who have, for many different reasons, questioned the value of their own lives. The Wayne State University School of Social Work, Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), the Wayne State University Suicide Prevention Initiative, Campus Health Center, Department of Psychology, Undergraduate Admissions, the Dean of Students Office, Commission on the Status of Women, NAMI Warriors, and special guests from the Detroit Pistons invite you to join us at the Wayne Warriors Honor World Suicide Prevention Day event marking the 17th anniversary of World Suicide Prevention Day, an initiative of the International Association for Suicide Prevention. We encourage you to show your support for suicide prevention and swing by to sign a candle in remembrance of a lost loved one and for the survivors of suicide. Let our names and thoughts raise awareness! There will also be a selfie booth for participants who would like to post a photo to social media sites with the hash tag #ISignedTheCandle@WSU. Date/time: Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Location: Gullen Mall fountain (between the Student Center and the Undergraduate Library (campus map))
