Michael K. Smith, Ph.D. is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Palo Alto, California. He has an adjunct clinical faculty appointment in the Stanford University School of Medicine where he provides psychotherapy supervision to residents in the psychiatry department. His wife, Margaret Florsheim (also a clinical Ph.D.) is a staff psychologist at the Department of Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. They have two children.

 

Kathy Terry, Ph.D. is a Research Associate with SEDL's Research and Evaluation (R&E) program. Terry’s work focuses on evaluation capacity building by consulting with staff members from state education departments served by the Southeast Comprehensive Center. She provides technical assistance and evaluation services in the Regional Educational Laboratory Southeast. Her current research interests and areas of expertise include research and evaluation, educator effectiveness, and school improvement.

Terry has extensive experience as an evaluation researcher using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. In addition, she was selected to attend the 2009 Using the National Household Education Survey Database for Research and Policy Analyses training, held by the Institute of Educational Sciences, National Center for Educational Research. Her work with the Houston Independent School District focused on designing and conducting evaluation projects to ensure accountability in the areas of teacher effectiveness, new teacher monitoring, and other programs designed to bring about improved outcomes at school.

Prior to joining SEDL in May 2014, Terry worked as Research Specialist in the Department of Research and Accountability for the Houston Independent School District. In this role, she conducted evaluation studies focused on teacher effectiveness, new teacher mentoring, career and technical education, early childhood interventions, and parent Involvement. In addition to designing and conducting evaluation projects, Terry has experience in survey development, data management, and analysis. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Prairie View University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Wayne State University. Terry also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute of Social Research at the University of Michigan.

 

Alan G. Weinstein, Ph.D. retired in 2010 from Wehle School of Management at Canisius College where he was a professor for 34 years. He has authored and published "Executive Coaching and the Process of Change" and launched "Entrepreneurs on Campus" at Canisius – a program that brings active entrepreneurs on campus to support and participate in student programs. Weinstein chairs three groups of CEOs and senior managers as an independent contractor for Vistage International.
