Are you a Wayne State student looking to gain some firsthand experience in a museum?

We could certainly use your talents as a museum volunteer!

As a volunteer you can work as a docent in our museum gallery, work in the museum lab, and assist with the archives and collections. For most volunteers, time will be divided between monitoring the museum and working in the lab. Our docents answer guest questions and often times work on homework and reading while guests view the gallery. In the museum lab, volunteers assist staff with ongoing projects and collections.

As a museum volunteer, you have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the collections, learn about the exhibit, assist with projects, and gain firsthand experience in what goes on behind the scenes in museums.

If you're interested in volunteering please contact the museum email: GrosscupMuseum@wayne.edu

Some recent collections-based projects have included:

  • Photogrammetry of collection objects to create 3D models
  • Documentation of uncatalogued comparative collections
  • Environmental evaluation of collections rooms
  • Documentation of incoming donations
  • Assistance with rotating exhibit installation
  • Digitization of archaeological site photos and slides
