Why did you go into math?

Mathematics is art and science at the same time. It is truth, beauty and relevance all wrapped up in one. With a major in math, you can do anything, from research to professional school, to teaching, to Wall Street.

What advice would you give to an incoming WSU student?

Investigate as many programs and majors as possible and pick the one you're most passionate about.

Most rewarding thing about leading the university's largest college?

The breadth of CLAS is truly amazing, and it is great to speak with students and scholars who view the world in many different ways, with many different methods.

Favorite Mathematical Equation?

Euler's formula: 𝑒𝑖𝜋+1=0

What's your favorite thing about Wayne State?

The name! (Ha, ha, ha) I love its beautiful urban campus, the great research and the noble mission of educating a wide spectrum of students.

What is one thing people may not know about you?

I do a great impression of Jim Morrison and was lead vocalist in a Doors tribute band when I was an undergraduate.
