The WSU Confucius Institute celebrated its tenth year anniversary on May 2, 2018 with a dinner for 170 attendees at the Golden Harvest Restaurant in Warren Michigan. On hand were visitors from the Chinese Consulate in Chicago; Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan; Hanban: Chinese Language Council International;  the Association of Chinese Americans; the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit; Wayne State University; Schoolcraft College; the Macomb Cultural and Economic Partnership; local K-12 schools; and the Confucius Institutes at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, and the University of Toledo.

Remarks were given by Consul Lei Jin from the Chinese Consulate in Chicago; Vice President Jianguo Chen of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; and Vice President Ahmad Ezzeddine of Wayne State University. A special video greeting was sent by former Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wayne State University, Robert L. Thomas, who was also the founder of the Confucius Institute at Wayne State University.

The focus of the evening was to express appreciation for all those who have been involved in the success of the institute. Four couples were honored with recognition awards for their outstanding contributions as volunteers: Jon and Helen Brewster of Detroit, Dean and Joellen Smith of Berkeley, MI; David and Thuy Gimby of Canton, MI; and Benjamin Moyars and Sooyeon Shin of Lafayette, IN. Awards were presented by Consul Lei Jin from the Chinese Consulate in Chicago; Vice President Jianguo Chen of Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Vice President Ahmad Ezzeddine of Wayne State University, and Xiuqin Lin from Hanban.
