2019 Chinese Cooking Contest

The 2019 Cooking Contest took place on Wednesday, March 27, from 3:30 - 6 PM at the International Institute, a few blocks from the campus of Wayne State University. Five teams of four prepared appetizers, entrees, and staple dishes within a two-hour time limit. Dishes were sampled and evaluated by four judges and audience members, with prizes distributed accordingly. The quality of dishes seemed to reach a new high this year, making judging an especially arduous task! Below is a link to pictures from this year's contest:

The Confucius Institute at Wayne State University has collaborated with the Detroit Chapter of the Association of Chinese Americans, sponsoring Chinese cooking contests in 2011-12, 2014-19. Each contest has brought together highly adept cullinary teams who competed for fun and prizes. Discerning judges and appreciative spectators enjoy witnessing preparations, presentations, and, of course, sampling the various dishes! The cooking contests bring together students from Wayne State University, members of the Association of Chinese Americans and members of the Central Alliance Church, who have graciously offered a spacious and accommodating venue for each of the cooking contests.
