As of January 2020, the WSU-Confucius Institute offers outreach programming only on the campus of Wayne State University. Teachers are welcome to arrange field trips to visit the Confucius Institute for up to four hours. Requests may be made for calligraphy, tai chi, paper cutting, paper folding, language practice, immersion obstacle courses, or presentations on various aspects of Chinese culture. Our preferred day is Friday, but appointments may also be made before 3 PM on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Note: Due to visa complications, the WSU-CI will likely suspend all outreach visits after February 27, 2020. We will contact everyone on our CLAM mailing list, once we are able to resume the program.

 Outreach Visit Request Form

In conjunction with teacher requests, volunteers help teach basic aspects of Chinese language and culture. Teachers may fill out a request form (see above link) to indicate preferred dates, times, and activities. Requests must be limited to four hours from arrival to and departure from Wayne State University.

WSU volunteers offer a Chinese Immersion Obstacle Course for students with one or more years of Chinese. In pursuit of small prizes, students must complete given tasks - communicating only in Chinese - as they visit simulated airports, banks, restaurants, hotels, train stations, department stores, etc.

Due to popular demand, each school may request a maximum of two visits per semester with a maximum visit time of no longer than 3.5 hours.  Our outreach team will make every effort to accommodate requests, but cannot guarantee availability.
