Hunan Normal University Music Troupe
The Hunan Normal University Musical Troupe performed on Saturday, September 19th, at Wayne State's Community Arts Center. The troupe stopped by as part of a tour through the American Midwest, including stops at other Confucius Institutes from neighboring states. The performance included instrumental pieces, singing, dancing, and combinations thereof from many of China's colorful sub-cultures. Especially captivating was the peacock dance, a duet between a man and woman bedazzled with brilliant feathered blue costumes. Dancing and craning carefully, the two dancers brought us a beautiful sight from the China's natural world. The show included high energy performances by fearsome Kung fu dancers and jolly Tibetan dancing couples. We saw a more delicate and refined scene by the artfully played Erhu and Guzheng traditional Chinese instruments. And finally we were blown away by the colorful costumes native to many of China's ethnic minorities worn proudly for all. Overall the performance was wonderfully exciting with many an amazing photo opportunity and we wish the Hunan Normal University Musical Troupe safe travels, and hope they return some day soon.
