Art Contest and Quiz Bowl

The Confucius Institute at Wayne State University will hold two signature events at Schoolcraft College this year: the annual Chinese Zodiac Animal Art Contest and the Michigan China Quiz Bowl, both in their tenth year!

The K-12 Chinese Zodiac Animal Art Contest will be held on Tuesday, February 27 in the VisTaTech Center from 3-6 PM, with awards presented at 5:30 PM. Students in grades K-12 are encouraged to submit posters, t-shirts, or 3-D art projects commemorating the year of the dog, using at least four Chinese characters. Prizes will be awarded to first through third-place finishers in each category, with four divisions according to grade level: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome to view the art on display. More information is available at:
The tenth annual Michigan China Quiz Bowl will take place on Saturday, March 3, with check-in beginning at 8:30 AM in the Liberal Arts Building at Schoolcraft College. Non-native, non-heritage middle and high school students are encouraged to register and take part in this competition, testing their knowledge of Chinese language and culture. Divisions are as follows: first and second year middle school learners and first through fourth-year high school learners. Final competitions will take place in the Auditorium in the Vista Tech Center and are open to the public (though no photographs or recording are allowed).
