Program Overview

The CLLAS Academic Program is an integral part of the Center's Mission

Each fall approximately fifty students enroll in the CLLAS academic program.  Historically, CLLAS admits as  many as 75% of all first year Latino students attending Wayne State University.

The program is a two-year academic program designed to develop a solid intellectual and motivational foundation for success in college based on a student-centered, community-grounded, self-empowerment model.

The program offers courses in the History, Literature, and Culture of Latinos and Latin America.  In addition, the Center operates a sophisticated advising, counseling and tracking program that includes an early-warning system, survival and success seminars, tutoring, personal counseling, and orientation to the university community.
