Teachers of K-12 are being asked to be in a research study of factors that protect teachers from stress and negative moods. This study is being conducted at Wayne State University.

Study Procedures

If you take part in the study, you will be asked to complete an on-line survey that contains multiple questionnaires. These questions will be about many areas, including your school environment and stress in teaching, your perceptions of your own personality, how you cope with stress, your possible signs of stress including negative moods and depression, and how you think other persons support you. Overall, this survey is expected to take 45 minutes, though most people will take less than this amount of time to do the survey.

There may be no direct benefits for you; however, information from the study may benefit other people now or in the future. In addition, you will be provided information that refers you to available mental health resources at the end of the study, as well as tips for managing stress.

By taking part in this study, you may experience the following risks: Some of the questions may be emotionally stressful. You will be provided with referral information to mental health resources.

There will be no costs to you for participation in this research study.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a drawing to receive a $25 gift card to Target or Staples. (If you win, you choose which gift card.). At least 14 teachers will be randomly selected to win a gift card, from those teachers who enter the drawing for a gift card. Your participation in the drawing, should you choose to do that, will not be linked in any way to your survey responses.

All information collected about you and your school (if any) during the course of this study will be kept without any information that identifies you or your school.

Voluntary Participation /Withdrawal

Taking part in this study is voluntary. You are free not to answer any questions or to withdraw at any time. Your decision will not change any present or future relationships that you may have with Wayne State University or your school/organization.
