French area hosts Marianne Midwest Series

The French area was most happy to welcome Marianne Midwest to Wayne State University this year! The Marianne Midwest Series is a collaboration between The Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Chicago, the Alliance Française of Chicago, The France Chicago Center, and the University of Chicago French Club. At several Midwestern universities, including Wayne State, Marianne Midwest provides live teleconferences with important French and Francophone figures. The Wayne State venue was co-organized by the French area of CMLLC, the Alliance Française de Grosse Pointe, and the Alliance Française de Détroit/French Institute. The featured speakers included: Christiane Taubira, former representative from French Guyana and French Minister of Justice; Pap Ndiaye, professor at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris; and Dany Laferrière, world renowned Haitian-Québecois writer and member of the Académie Française. Collaboration with the two local Alliances Françaises also allowed us to bring the one-woman show in French, “Pardon My French,” to Wayne State University. The French area hopes to continue to collaborate with our local Alliances Françaises and the French American Chamber of Commerce to provide stimulating cultural venues at Wayne State University.
