We offer five different minors:

  • Ancient Greek
  • Latin
  • Ancient Greek and Latin
  • Classical Civilization
  • Modern Greek Studies

Ancient Greek

This minor focuses on Ancient Greek language. Students are required to take:

  • 20 credits of Ancient Greek (generally 5 courses; GKA 1010 and 1020 do not count toward these credits)
  • CLA 1010

Latin

The Latin minor focuses on Latin language.  Students are required to take:

  • 20 credits of Latin (generally 5 courses;  LAT 1010 and 1020 do not count toward these credits)
  • CLA 1010

Ancient Greek and Latin

This concentration focuses on the study of both ancient languages.  Students are required to take:

  • 12-16 credits of their first language (GKA or LAT; 1010 and 1020 do not count toward these credits)
  • 12 credits in their second language (GKA or LAT;  all courses count toward the requirement)
  • CLA 1010

Classical Civilization

This minor combines the study of ancient languages with ancient civilization.  Students are required to take:

  • LAT or GKA 1010 and 1020
  • CLA 1010 or CLA 2000
  • 1 CLA course numbered 2000 or above
  • CLA 3700 or CLA 3150
  • CLA 3800 or CLA 3825
  • PHI 2100 (Ancient Philosophy)
  • 1 ancient Art History course

Modern Greek Studies

Students that by examination place out of one or more courses in the beginning or intermediate language sequences must satisfy the equivalent number of credit hours at the GKM 3000-level or above.

Students are required to take:

  • GKM 1010, 1020, 2010, 2020
  • One course in Modern Greek language or civilization at the 3000 level or above
  • One elective course in Classics in translation
