Jered Carr is the Director of the Master's in Public Administration (M.P.A.) program and teaches courses in public administration and urban politics.  Jered Carr’s teaching and research interests are in local government policy and administration. He has ongoing research programs focused on local government structure, municipal services cooperation, and metropolitan governance. He is co-editor of City-County Consolidation and its Alternatives: Reshaping the Local Government Landscape (ME Sharpe, 2004). His work has appeared in many leading journals in public administration and urban affairs, including the American Review of Public Administration, Political Research Quarterly, Public Administration Review, State and Local Government Review, and the Urban Affairs Review. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in public administration, public budgeting and finance, urban policy and administration, and intergovernmental relations. He earned his Ph.D at the Reubin O’D Askew School of Public Administration and Policy at the Florida State University in 2000. His dissertation, entitled The Political Economy of Local Government Boundary Change: State Laws, Local Actors, and Collection Action, received the 2001 Leonard White Award. This award is given annually by the American Political Science Association to recognize the best doctoral dissertation in the field of public administration. Professor Carr joined the faculty in Fall 2001. Prior to joining the department, he taught at the College of Charleston and worked as a policy analyst for the Florida Legislature. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the State and Local Government Review and the Urban Affairs Review.
