2010 WRITING CONTESTS

The Judith Siegel Pearson Award is awarded for the best creative or scholarly work on a subject concerning women.  Each year, on a rotating basis, either fiction, drama, poetry or essays in literary studies will be designated for submission.  For the 2010 award, unpublished essays may be submitted.  


The Phillip Lawson Hatch, Jr. Memorial Writing Competition in English was established to recognize achievement in the expression and investigation of ethnicities and experience.  Fiction, poetry and drama may be submitted.  Contestants of any ethnic or racial group are encouraged to apply.  Open to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at Wayne State University.   
 
 
The John Clare Prize in Poetry was named for the 19th century English poet.  This award was established at Wayne State University by the Academy of American Poets in New York.  Every five years, the Academy publishes an anthology of selected prize-winning poems, edited by a prominent American poet.  Any student registered during the Fall 2009 or Winter 2010 semesters is eligible.  
  
The Tompkins Awards were created to encourage creative writing among students.  Drama, verse, fiction and essays may be submitted.  Any student registered during the Fall 2009 or Winter 2010 semesters is eligible.
