Initially, focus within our local sourcing project will be on Michigan- and other regionally-sourced foods available during the growing season, and for meals for special events, scaling up as we build capacity.
The Warrior Towers dining hall has already served meals that included herbs and vegetables from the Warrior Demonstration Garden.
On sourcing from local farms, initial events that will serve meals with products from such sources include:
- Breakfast at the a Detroit Orientation Institute (DOI) session for new WSU faculty, August 22, 2008 (40-45 persons attending)
- Breakfast at a "regular" DOI event, October 16, 2008 (40-45 persons)
- Lunch at a "regular" DOI event, October 30, 2008 (45-50 persons)
A "local harvest" lunch is also planned for September 18 at Towers Cafe. This lunch will provide a Michigan-themed menu made from locally sourced products, including SEED Wayne's Warrior Demonstration Garden. For a menu, click here

Above, right: At the DOI breakfast on August 22, Chef Giulio Fattore's pastries disappeared quickly! The breakfast also featured Avalon Breads (Detroit), Apples from Blake's Farms (Almont, MI) and peaches and blue berries from Todoscuik Farms (Howell, MI)
Right: Chef Giulio telling DOI attendees about the breakfast. Looking on is Kurt Metzger of United Way, awaiting his turn at the podium.
