Welcome to the GEL 1010 home page.  This web site contains information about lecture sections (class schedule and course content); instructors (contact information and office hours); the Physical Geology laboratory (description and hours of operation), and the winter semester departmental field trip (destination and site descriptions).

Geology is the scientific study of the Earth. GEL 1010 deals with Physical Geology - the study of the physical materials composing the Earth, and the processes involved in their formation and change. GEL 1010 is complimented by GEL 1020 which deals with Historical Geology - the study of the chronological sequence of events recorded in Earth's geologic record.  The lecture part of GEL 1010 deals with conceptual and background information.  The purpose of the laboratory is to reinforce the lecture with hands-on experiments, demonstrations and exercises.  The winter field trip serves to further enhance your learning experience by examining rocks in the field, and collecting fossils at a world famous locality near Arkona, Canada.
