THE 2011/2012 DENNIS TURNER SCHOLARSHIP IN FILM

The Department of English invites applications for the Dennis Turner Scholarship in Film. The
Scholarship is intended to support graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences who have a strong interest in Film Studies. Preference will be given to full
time graduate students majoring or otherwise demonstrating a strong interest in Film Studies;
undergraduate students are also encouraged to apply.

Recipients must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and must be able to demonstrate financial
need.  Recipients are eligible for repeat awards.  Please submit a letter of interest to Dr. Kirsten
Thompson, Department of English, Wayne State University.  Include an unofficial transcript and
a six page sample of your writing with your submission.


  •  Please note: writing samples should be an academic analysis of film such as a final paper for a film class. (Please no creative writing or screenplays),
  •  Pipeline printouts of transcripts are acceptable
  •  Make sure you  are registered through the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The deadline for applications is March 4, 2011.  A committee of film faculty members in English
will judge applications on the basis of scholarly potential, writing ability, and past performance
in film and media classes.
