Ralph Bunche Summer Institute
For the fifth summer CPCS will host the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute. Each year, we welcome upcoming high school sophomores and juniors from diverse communities within Southeast Michigan to participate.
During the course of one week, participating students focus on topics of conflict resolution, diversity, negotiation, international affairs, and how to individually foster peace within their own communities, all in the spirit of Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, a native Detroiter and the first person of color to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. The purpose of the Institute is to inform students about Dr. Bunche’s life and peacemaking legacy, in the Middle East, Africa and at the United Nations, while also imparting multicultural skills for promoting harmony in their own lives, in our community, and the world as a whole.
Students have the opportunity to fully experience campus life with an overnight stay in the University residence halls during one evening of the week. The residence halls also provide daily lunches, a Thursday evening dinner, and a Friday morning breakfast.
This year the 2009 Ralph Bunche Summer Institute will take place from June 22nd to June 26th. Registration is now open.
