The following CPD students are working on a healthy restaurant menu project for kids as part of the Oakland County Childhood Obesity Committee: Carmen Epstein, Laurel Dawn Mckenna, Rachelle Lewis, Pamela Knudson, Sarah Stephison, Sarah Beth Krogsrud.
The project involves working with Oakland County restaurants to offer healthy menu options for children and providing nutrition guidelines for these establishments. The students will be staffing a Michigan Dietetic Association exhibit table at the "Fighting Child Obesity" Conference on September 27th. The Committee is working on all levels to prevent child obesity by projects such as these, in addition to working with schools and other community constituencies to change the health environment for children. One committee member, a WSU alum, Dr. Paul Ehrmann, was recently honored for his work in this area by Craine's.
The "Fighting Child Obesity" Conference keynote speaker is Dr. Thomas Robinson, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Healthy Weight at Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Information to attend the September conference, for which 5 CPEs for RDs have been submitted, is available by clicking on Registration Form,
