HOLLYWOOD COMES TO MOTOWN

Hollywood is not just making a film or two in Michigan they are setting up shop in the area which means jobs for the state. Recent films shot in the area such as Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino and last summer’s blockbuster Transformers are just two examples. A total of 73 movie projects have been approved by the state. Since the incentives went into effect, the film industry has created $100 million in revenue.
Here is a short list of films recently shot or being shot in the area:
Detroit 1-8-7 (TV). 2010. David Zabel, Executive Producer. Whip It (starring Drew Barrymore about roller girls) Miss January (with Brian Dennehy, directed by Kim Cattrell) Demoted (Michael Vartan) Prayers for Bobby (Sigourney Weaver) Up in the Air (George Clooney). Currently filming at Detroit Metro airport. Betty Ann Waters (Hillary Swank)

Companies that have committed to opening up a business or expanding n the state:
Motown Motion Picture Studios, a film production studio to be built at General Motors Corp.'s former Centerpoint plant located in Pontiac. This studio will include several soundstages.
Detroit Center Studios, a digital animation and visual effects studio will set up shop in the former MGM Grand Casino downtown, this studio is set to open by the end of the year.
Stardock Systems, a video and computer gaming company will expand its operations in Plymouth
Allen Park has plans for a $100 million film production studio in the city. The name of the company has yet to be released.
Sterling Heights is raising the city's profile by building a film-friendly website to scout out locations for future Hollywood films.
