How to Apply to WSU Anthropology Graduate Programs

Applicants to the MA program must have completed a bachelor’s degree or be in their final semester before completion.  The department prefers to admit students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, although students with lower GPA may be admitted if the rest of their application file is exceptionally strong.

Applicants to the PhD program must have completed a master’s degree in Anthropology or be in their final semester before completion.  If you do not have a master’s degree in Anthropology and wish to do a PhD at Wayne State University , please apply to the MA program.  After completion of your master’s, you will have the option of applying to continue as a PhD student. International students must have a TOEFL score of 550 or above for admission.

The deadlines for applications to the MA program are October 1 to begin during the Winter semester and January 10 to begin in the Fall semester; the deadline for the PhD is January 10 to begin in the Fall semester. If you have any questions contact the graduate coordinator, and you are encouraged to discuss your plans with one or more members of the faculty who specialize in your area of interest as early as possible, to determine if this is the right program for your needs.
