| CLAS History Student Wins Fulbright Research Award |
| Description |
History major and graduating senior Shayan Momin has received a Fulbright research award for his project, "A New Countryside: Chinese Law and Rural Reconstruction in Hebei Province."
Shayan will focus on the efforts of activist groups to restructure the rural economy and restore meaningful social cooperation between peasants in impoverished rural areas in Hebei province.
Specifically, he is interested in learning more about the role of the law in the relationship between these activist groups and local government agencies. Shayan will be affiliated with Renmin University of China in Beijing. Shayan began research on this topic when he received a Sterne-Lion Research Award two years ago. He developed this project under the mentorship of Alex Day.
We extend congratulations to Shayan (and his mentor, Alex Day) on Shayan's extraordinary achievement--Fulbright awards were made to only 17% of the more than 7000 applicants.
