Dimensions of the African Experience seeks to provide students with an intimate, first-hand experience of African history, culture and contemporary life-styles and developmental challenges; equip students with the conceptual and intellectual tools required to analyze complex cultural and political institutions in Africa and the world, and overall the ability to engage in critical thinking and field observation in the social sciences; encourage appreciation for cultural diversity through exposure to African and foreign cultures; and expose African-American students in particular to the African roots of African-American identity.
