Assignments

Students must submit their assignment to engwc310@wayne.edu by 9 a.m. on the day of your appointment. Failure to do so will result in the cancelation of the appointment. Important: Day of appointments must be sent at least two hours prior to the appointment.

Pre-online requirements

To confirm that you have read and understood all of the above, please email engwc310@wayne.edu with the following information (must be completed before every appointment):

  • An attachment of the material you wish to cover in the appointment, as well as specific concerns or goals you hope to address
  • Email of the assignment by 9 a.m. the day of your appointment

Note: You'll need your Microsoft Teams account (using your Wayne State email) for the online appointment.

Online appointment rules

  • All students must actively work with the tutor during the session via Teams video chat
  • Online appointments are conducted similarly to face-to-face appointments, where both tutor and student interact and discuss writing needs and skills
  • We do not conduct online appointments during the first hour of operation, Monday through Thursday
  • Appointments will begin within the first 10 minutes of the hour and last 50 minutes. These initial 10 minutes are for your tutor to prepare all of the material for the appointment. It also allows a grace period for the student to sign in and connect with the tutor
  • If you need to cancel your appointment, you must do so at least 12 hours before the appointment begins. You can cancel your appointment by either calling us at 313-577-2544 (recommended, if during business hours), in-person during office hours or using our online scheduling system
  • If you fail to cancel your appointment more than once, you'll be suspended from our system and must contact the contact the assistant director to be reinstated

Expectations of online appointments

The Wayne State University Writing Center hopes to help as many students as possible, with as many of their concerns as we are able. However, we actively avoid a few trends during online sessions.

  • Our ultimate goal is to grant the students access to the necessary skills to fix grammatical and sentence-level issues themselves
  • We do not "edit" or "fix" papers for you. Instead, our tutors will walk through the material with you, provide materials, resources, and instruction to help equip you with skills that will help you fix your own paper
  • We will point out grammatical and sentence-level issues but will ask students to actively work on finding and fixing those errors – not only with the tutor during the appointment – but also on their own after the session
