WHAT IS INTERNET
BASED RESEARCH STUDY FOR PEOPLE WITH DIABETES?
Diabetes is a
serious and complex disease that affects over 20 million people living in the
The purpose of
the Internet Based Study for People with Diabetes is to test how different methods
of dealing with stress can improve the health and functioning of people with diabetes.
Participation in this study
may improve your ability to cope and manage your diabetes, and lead to better
health and functioning.
We are seeking:

Adults, ages 18 to 45, diagnosed with Type I diabetes, who
have regular access to the internet, and who are willing and able to
participate in a brief writing exercise and complete questionnaires.

Individuals with Type I diabetes who would like to learn
more about how stress may contribute to their disease.
·
This study does NOT make any changes in your medical
treatment. You need to continue to
receive medical care from your own physician.
This is a
randomized clinical trial, in which participants will be asked to engage in a
writing exercise and report on their health several times over 3 months. All
aspects of the study will be completed online, via a secure webpage.

Writing exercise: You
will be asked to write about stress or health behaviors, for 20 minutes per day
for 4 days over a two week period, via the webpage.

Your health and
functioning will be evaluated 3 times during this study. Each evaluation
consists of completing a series of questionnaires, again via the webpage.
Everyone who
completes the first round of questionnaires will be entered into a lottery to
win $100, as compensation for your time. Your chances of winning are about one
in ten.
